Directions

Tegel is one of Berlin's Charlottenburg district. Nationally known as the location of the district of Berlin-Tegel and the Tegel Prison.

The word "Tegel" comes from a Slavic root word "tag" means. This refers to the Tegel lake, which is an appendage of the Havel.

The district is due to the Tegeler Lake and the Greenwich promenade located there (named after Reinickendorf District Greenwich Partners) is a popular destination in the north of Berlin. History

Since 1893, Tegel has a railway station, the current S-Bahn station Tegel on the Kremmener. During the time when the district Charlottenburg to the French sector was one, was the target station or starting point of French troop movements by rail.

In 1920, the later for "Alt-Reinickendorf" designated northern district of Berlin, was initially the name of the then largest village in the north of Berlin, "Tegel district" receive. However, the decision was in favor of "Charlottenburg district."

In 1895, at the Tegeler Fliess by Gustav Lilienthal, the non-profit housing association "Freie Scholle" founded.
